South Sydney Leagues Club chair Bill Alexiou-Hucker has defended his club’s decision to install poker machines in its new Redfern headquarters.
City of Sydney Greens Councillor Irene Doutney, who has long campaigned against the plan by SSLC to reinstall poker machines at its new Redfern site, said council planning regulations cannot interfere with the right of a licensee to install poker machines. And she took the SSLC to task, claiming they made a number of assertions in writing saying that they would not include pokies in the new facility.
But Mr Alexiou-Hucker said when the original DA was approved by the council for a supermarket and leagues club in the same building the topic of a no-gaming venue had not appeared on the radar .
